A regular runner, Amelia is used to working with a Physio to overcome and prevent injuries. When she was diagnosed with a left hip labral tear (with mixed FAI cam and pincer – the same injury as Andy Murray!) she discussed her options with two Orthopaedic surgeons and our Physio Jesse, before deciding surgery was the right treatment.

Pre-surgery, Jesse developed a program to strengthen Amelia’s non-injured leg/ hip which would support her recovery and as instructed by the surgeon, began her post-surgery rehab program two weeks after the operation.

The surgeon warned that recovery would be long and slow, and he wasn’t wrong - from staying off her left hip and learning to use crutches, to dealing with the constant fear of re-tearing the cartilage, Amelia has often described her rehab as a rollercoaster. She also says, “bridge heel slides - shouldn’t be a thing!” 🤣

Her advice to others going through something similar: “be active in your rehab exercises. If you’re finding something too hard or causing pain, call it out. There’s nearly always an alternative. Also, find the right Physio – one who you trust and can work with openly and honestly.”
